Monday, Jan. 19, 2009 there will be events all around the country to do community service.
I'm going to UMSL to work on whatever project they have. It's part of Martin Luther King Day. You can find all sorts of local events by checking out this website:

I figure the most community oriented things I'll do Monday will be to make an appointment to give blood whenever the bloodmobile is next in town and sign my workplace up for a green audit. In other words, I'll just do paperwork.
I've heard that around here neither the schools nor the banks close for MLK day.
