To stay or go?

I'm seriously torn. I think I mostly want to buy a house in Idaho, but there are strong reasons to stay. Pros and Cons: (Some serious / some silly / just everything). What should we do?

Pros for buying in St. Louis:
J.D.'s work
Connections/help/possible work Wash U
Library access / resources Wash U
Closer to Catherine, Michael, and Olivia for visits
Help to initially, possibly get a job elsewhere
Botanical Garden
Art Museum & special exhibits / Culture
Forest Park sledding/kite flying
Lots of kid activities and places Butterfly house, Magic house, City Museum
Earlier spring / more flowering plants / easier to grow for a garden
Always some new restaurant or new thing to do

Cons for buying in St. Louis:
***Away from family (most heavily weighted)
Like it but don't want to stay here indefinitely
Tornadoes :)
Get less nice house for same price
Worry about selling house in next year or two

Pros for buying in Idaho:
Where our hearts are
Closer to both sides of our family
Closer to some friends
Money goes a lot further, would get a lot more house & land
Mountains/ nature / open space

Cons for buying in Idaho:
J.D. doesn't have a secure job there
I don't have a job or connections / resources there
We've gotten used to the variety of culture and would really miss museums & botanical garden

I've probably forgotten things. Oh... I'm stressed & my heart just hurts thinking about it. It seems impossible to make the right choice.

Let me recommend Utah. There are TWO fabulous houses up for sale on my cul-de-sac now! TWO! We're two hours from Burley. Utah's economy is good, Greg could for sure get JD a job at his video game company (and by for sure, I mean at least an interview) - JD's in computers isn't he? If not, does he want to be? Put Utah on the list!

Thanks Brandy that's very kind of you. :) J.D. does data analysis including statistical forecasts, models, and explanations of data, etc. He doesn't actually write programs. All of his family is in Nampa.

Well, I would say you should take into account what life in Boise is like right now. It is, after all, the best "city" experience to be had in Idaho and would be close to family. Also wouldn't there be some other options, such as Seattle, Portland, etc.? They are not in Idaho and would not be as close to your family. However, it would make your family within a day's drive (and I know what I'm talking about) and would have that whole "city and culture" thing going for it. There are other places too that you could consider that might split the difference between family and city offerings. Sorry if it's not much of an answer, but I think there are more options.

Hey lutheranchick... yes, there are more options. We just hesitate because it's so uncertain if I'll have a job in the future, and we have no idea where that might take us. It certainly could be Seattle or Portland, etc. It's just a confusing time. J.D. is applying for jobs in Boise, as we figure that is our best option right now. Thanks for your thoughts. It's always good to remember there are more options.

I would just hope that including more cities that might work would make it easier for you to make it work. Hopefully in a bigger city there is likely to be enough institutions of higher learning for there to be a job for you and plenty of job options for JD. Good luck and don't stress yourself to bits.
