Helper kid

Jonathan has turned into helper kid extraordinaire.

He works hard on the laundry.

And he helps make lunch. Yesterday it was peanut butter and pasta with mac and cheese, jam, salt, pepper, marshmallows, all in a crust with cocoa on top.

Nature sends little love notes

You just have to look to see them. I found this perfect heart leaf walking home to the new house for the first time Saturday. It was on campus outside Duncker. Saturday was such a lovely day, sunny and full of fall color.

Things are going well since we closed on the house Friday, October 23, 2009. Right now J.D. is in Colorado Springs for a leadership training program.

During their time off today his group tried to drive up Pikes Peak, but there was too much snow. J.D. told me that during his personal free time he took a walk in the big flakey snow and that there are swans on the lake.

We are halfway moved into our house. When J.D. gets home we'll move the rest. (I'm not too useful for moving things right now).

But tomorrow I do have a busy day of fixing things around the house (or rather being present while skilled professionals fix things). I'll walk over from the apartment at 8:30 a.m. It's only about 9 blocks away. Hopefully by 9:00 a.m. AT&T will be there to set up our new phone/internet/cable; we'll get our washer & dryer & fridge around noon (yippee!), and then by 3:00 p.m. the handyman will fix our dryer vent for us. So, the joys of home ownership begin.

I hope we're up for this! :)

p.s. I did REALLY enjoy using my first dishwasher today. It was fun.

Pick your vegetable and verb

Sadly, I didn't get everything on my list done yesterday. I did go to the library to finish writing down M.'s thesis bibliography, and I did work with the volumes of marginal notes in Remembrance. Also, I wrote in my notes for 30 minutes. But that's it.

So, I deserve to be thrashed with Swiss chard, drubbed by rhubarb, clobbered with cucumbers, beaten with beets, or pummeled by pumpkin. I should at least have cyber vegetables and fruits lobbed at me. A few suggestions, feel free to mix and match:

  • Potato
  • Beans
  • Okra
  • Artichoke
  • Squash
  • Eggplant
  • Peppers
  • Gooseberries
  • Gourds
  • Corn
  • Melons
  • Zucchini
  • Broccoli
  • Cauliflower
  • Lettuce

  • Punch
  • Strike
  • Pound
  • Knock
  • Hurl
  • Belt
  • Hammer
  • Batter
  • Thump
  • Bombard
  • Pelt
  • Splatter
  • Wallop
  • Lambaste
  • Shellac

Goals

1. Read 46 pages.

2. Research
A. Bibliography
B. Notes in Volumes

3. Write for two sessions: 45 minutes and 30 minutes.

OK, these are my goals for tomorrow. In order to kick myself in the posterior, I'm putting them on here. If I don't do these things on 1/12/09, I give anyone permission to come hit me with a tomato. I will even supply the tomato. (Or you could choose an English cucumber, raspberries, an orange, or asparagus).
