J.D.'s Victory at 'Ard Boyz

J.D. recently won round two of the 'Ard Boyz Tournament. He placed first at both rounds. He got a 3,000 point army for winning and a ticket to Minnesota for the final round. Go Ogre Kingdoms!

Nature sends little love notes

You just have to look to see them. I found this perfect heart leaf walking home to the new house for the first time Saturday. It was on campus outside Duncker. Saturday was such a lovely day, sunny and full of fall color.

Things are going well since we closed on the house Friday, October 23, 2009. Right now J.D. is in Colorado Springs for a leadership training program.

During their time off today his group tried to drive up Pikes Peak, but there was too much snow. J.D. told me that during his personal free time he took a walk in the big flakey snow and that there are swans on the lake.

We are halfway moved into our house. When J.D. gets home we'll move the rest. (I'm not too useful for moving things right now).

But tomorrow I do have a busy day of fixing things around the house (or rather being present while skilled professionals fix things). I'll walk over from the apartment at 8:30 a.m. It's only about 9 blocks away. Hopefully by 9:00 a.m. AT&T will be there to set up our new phone/internet/cable; we'll get our washer & dryer & fridge around noon (yippee!), and then by 3:00 p.m. the handyman will fix our dryer vent for us. So, the joys of home ownership begin.

I hope we're up for this! :)

p.s. I did REALLY enjoy using my first dishwasher today. It was fun.

J.D.'s most difficult day at work

I drove J.D. to the Metro today and then drove myself home. It actually gave me a small but important sense of accomplishment. I know it's silly, but I haven't driven in years, and to drive the stick shift is a big deal for me.

I blew J.D. a kiss as he got on the train. He laughed and caught it. We had joked the night before about the parting scene in Young Frankenstein when Dr. Frankenstein's fiancée keeps fending off his kisses and hugs, and she even avoids a kiss he blows at her. :)

Anyway, I had a busy, fairly productive day. This evening J.D. called to let me know he made it safely to Las Vegas. He is with three people from his office at a resort. And it is a "real" resort. He spent a couple hours after landing just lounging by the pool and palm trees, sliding down a water slide, swimming, and sipping a beer by the pool. What a tough day at the office! Tonight they will probably go into the city. Have fun J.D. But not too much fun. :) Maybe I should have wrapped him in taffeta.

Seriously, I love you honey. I'm glad you're enjoying your first visit to Vegas baby.

My First Mother's Day

The smell of something delicious woke me this morning. J.D. greeted me at the dining room doorway with a kiss and "Happy Mother's Day baby's mama." He had the table set and a special breakfast made. We ate together and enjoyed homemade waffles, scrabbled eggs, skim milk, and a small glass of orange juice. After a good meal with our silly kitties running around our feet, J.D. cleared everything and washed the dishes. And I got to lie back down and relax.

It was very sweet. I have to admit, I sort of wondered if he had anything planned. Knowing J.D., I thought he would. But I decided not to say anything and just see.

I'm lucky. I yoked my soul to one of the very best.

Swine Flu

J.D. has a coworker that just returned from Mexico. He decorated her desk with five of these little piggies. Three of them had masks and two didn't, including one male pig with a smirky smile and a female pig with large, luscious lips. J.D. cut the masks, and I decorated them. It was our art project. . . . we've got to entertain ourselves somehow!

The pigs were evidently a big hit at work. Other coworkers have asked if they can have a piggy once she gets tired of them. :)

p.s. J.D. liked this particular pig best with his paranoid eyeballs.

La Maison en petits cubes

Each day measures more. Now one-third of our lives together. Brick by brick and stone by stone into the wall of Our Time. Increasingly, it becomes difficult to remember a time without you. Today we recalled together when we set out, young, going to a new place, only you and me. Here, we've stayed with modest increase; it's still just you and me. Holding your hand in the dark. You let me wear your gloves because I forgot mine. You walk slowly with me as I limp. Eternity is now. In the end we both believe the only mark you leave on time is the impress of love. I am sure husband, time will remember us.

My Cupcake Ring

Yesterday following my MRI scan, J.D. took me out for dinner. After dinner, sitting in our quiet, dark car, he reached in his pocket, took my hand, and carefully slipped a ring on my finger. Obviously, it's not a diamond or anything expensive. But I think the gesture is even sweeter. He saved the red heart decoration from a cupcake at his office. Love tokens have their value because they remind us our sweetheart loves us, but they're extra special if they show us we're thought of at unexpected moments.
