Hall of Shame

I'm looking for sympathy and also sharing a possible laugh for those that can appreciate all that's wrong here:

"The Matrix trilogy has caused more people to consider the nature of reality than have ever done."

"The passage of time has shown the Matrix trilogy to have had a greater effect on the complexitites of philosophy than such stories as Gilgamesh or the legends of the Olympian gods."

Really? I guess that lesson on absolutes and grand claims did not stick.

Ooooh baby, these are doozies!

The first one, aside from it's sheer funniness, makes no sense--grammatically, or otherwise.

And the second one just cracks me up! "the complexitites of philosophy"? "the legends of the Olympian Gods"?

Indeed, that lesson about absolutes and grand claims did not stick. Seriously, this is some turgidly overwrought prose, too, to use a 'grad skool' phrase.

(BTW, I think this is even funnier in print!)

Thanks for sharing!

I love how the writer, being in a first year comp class, makes claims to understand the entirety of philosophy as a whole--made MORE complex, of course, by "The Matrix."

Man, this is just great! (And it reveals what a dork I am that I find it so hilarious!)
