Tonight while walking into the house J.D. led the way, carrying Alaura. Jonathan followed on his own. I was still planting flowers. Jonathan stopped on the stairs half-way up and looked over at me and said "Mommy!?" It always melts my heart when he calls me "Mommy." But in this case it was also the tone he used. It was him noticing I wasn't coming, asking for me, saying I should come too: a question but also a statement. There was just something in that moment of him thinking about me. About belonging. About family. There are needy "Mommy"s and sad "Mommy"s, tired, upset, and silly. This was more of an I love you.
