Mavericks

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26504638/

I think some of the information in this article is pertinent, especially as McCain and Palin claim to be such "mavericks" about wasteful government spending and lobbying groups.

Evidently when mayor of Wasilla, Palin employed lobbyists to rake in $26.9 million in earmarks for her town of 6,715 residents.

This following quotation helps put that in perspective a bit more, in terms of 1 year's funds:

"In fiscal year 2002, Wasilla took in $6.1 million in earmarks -- about $1,000 in federal money for every resident. By contrast, Boise, Idaho -- which has more than 190,000 residents -- received $6.9 million in earmarks in fiscal 2008."

It just gets better and better....

Apparently, Palin herself was pregnant when she got married:

Or at least her son was born 8 months later....hmmmm....I like all the comments on this article, as well as the fact that they chose to have the pregnant girl hold the baby to conceal her pregnancy. No wonder people thought it was her kid!

Olivia is at my Mom's today. Can you tell I am procrastinating doing my work?

I understand. I too am procrastinating. I am looking at blogs, laughing at the Onion's newest video: "Old, Grizzled Third Party Candidate May Steal Support From McCain," and generally goofing off. My favorite line in the video, by the way, is why McCain voters support the policies of the third-party guy: "They feel they're even more antiquated and unhinged."

I'm going to get down to business soon. Let's both make a deal to work hard today. :)

I actually like what this person had to say:

I am SO annoyed with Sake mail--it ate my email to Raffia right as I sent it!

PS--I love the old guy and his cabin!--I especially love that his name is Joad!

Does anybody do serious work on Steinbeck anymore?

You know--there's one more thing I just thought of--would everyone be applauding Palin so heartily for supporting teen pregnancy and marriage is she and her daughter were African-American? I think not.

Is it just me, or is the whole RNC thing lasting FOREVER?

It seems like it. I'm mostly try to tune it out.

While flipping through the channels last night, we heard a couple minutes of her speech. All the Republican pundits are calling it brilliant. I don't understand why mentioning Iran makes her a foreign policy expert?

The whole thing makes no sense.

Much irony?
